President's Update - February 2011
New Leaders Bring New Ideas!

Each January a new slate of officers becomes responsible for guiding the Chamber staff and board through the coming year. This year’s board Chairman, Steve Shealey, has already begun to organize committees and engage volunteers. Based on results of the Board’s strategic planning session, 2011 Chamber committees will focus on:
Economic Development, chaired by Alison Beeman, Director of the Haines City Economic Development Council (EDC). The committee will coordinate and review local business needs, to learn of issues negatively impacting their business. The committee will also assist the EDC to recruit new businesses, such as a hotel or restaurant, to the community. Meetings will be held quarterly, with additional meetings scheduled as needed.
Long Range Planning, chaired by Chris Long, General Manager of Central Park and Central Park II . The committee will research other chamber’s best practices and recommend changes to our business model. They will also identify and support alternative funding sources to help keep member dues at affordable levels. The committee will meet quarterly or as needed.
Leadership Succession, chaired by Linda Pilkington, Physician Relations Director for Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center. This committee coordinates the activities of the youth and adult leadership programs, including identifying viable leadership class candidates for the annual programs. The committee meets as needed to ensure the leadership programs provide the optimum value to participants.
Membership Relations, co-chair Nanay Pittman, Promotions and Events Manager for the Ledger Media Group, needs a partner to help her with this important committee. The committee aims to recruit 100 new members and/or raise $20,000 in new membership revenue during 2011. Committee members will follow up with prospects and visit with current members to learn how the Chamber can be of service. The committee will meet as needed to attain its goals.
The Board invites each of you to contact the committee chair or our Chamber staff to participate in the activities that interest you. This is your Chamber, help us refine the programs and initiatives that enable your business to grow and prosper in 2011.
