The Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee requests your input as we develop our 2011 legislative agenda and track current legislation through the 2010 session.

Political Voice
Transportation/Growth:
- Support transit tax initiative to build county-wide transportation network, with links to rail.
- Fund for water supply and water quality initiatives to ensure adequate water resources are available for future use.
- Review fairness of State concurrency (growth management) requirements for development. Recent growth management regulations may have unfairly placed the majority of costs for concurrency requirements at the local level.
- Redirect transportation funding to road projects of regional impact in Polk County.
Education:
- Funding for Workforce Training – Continue grant and loan programs to retrain and improve workforce quality. Educated worker are key to attracting and keeping quality businesses.
- Revise the Class Size Reduction Act to repair unintended consequences such as not allowing team teaching and grouping classes for special instruction.
- Support funding allocations for USF Polytechnic campus and Polk State College campus in northeast Polk County.
Legal/Insurance:
- Preserve Workers Compensation Insurance reform, including lower Workers Comp costs.
- Oppose additional health care mandates resulting from new national health care plan.
- Support Property Insurance reform to protect from inequitable cost increases resulting from specific catastrophic events.
